Tempest Tost with White and DRT Member Holly Robinson Tempest Tost is still on course for her Group One debut in
Brisbane next month despite being beaten first up at Flemington on
Saturday.
The Derwent Racing Team star seemed to have all the favours in the
run but the big weight and lack of race fitness took its toll over
the concluding stages and she tired to finish a close third.
Trainer Gary White was still happy with the run and expects the
filly to improve a lot.
"She showed again how tough she is today, meeting quality
light weight horses and still looking the winner fifty metres from
home", said White who was not entirely happy with the ride.
"Look he(Billy Egan) is a good young rider and he did claim a
very important three kilos off her back, but he went for her very
early and there wasn't enough petrol in the tank".
White is a proven performer at having a horse right on the big day
and he has his sights set on his first Group One in Brisbane this
June.
"She (Tempest Tost) was coming to hand too quickly mentally
so I had to begin her preparation a little earlier than I had liked,
but she has had a race now and pulled up better than expected".
Despite some media reports that her next run will be in Sydney,
White is keen to race her again in Melbourne.
"I have a race picked for her on the 23rd of May at Caulfield
and this will be a nice lead up race for the Group One Winter Stakes
in Queensland".
Despite regular Jockey Darren Gauci riding the eventual winner of
Saturdays Race he is almost certain to be back on the gutsy mare in
Queensland.
"Darren was impressed with her run and said that she actually
fought him off a couple of times before running out of steam",
White said.
"we will be very happy to have Darren back in the saddle when
she gets less weight, he knows how to get the best out of her".
