Devils Quest Winning at Hobart Devils Quest returned to racing after ten months on the sidelines
with a stirring last stride win at Devonport on Sunday.
The win was emphasised by the huge weight advantage Devils Quest
gave the second placed horse Stormbay Spirit, a whopping seven kilos.
Trainer Jason Clifford has sung the praises of 'Bruce', as he is
affectionately known, for some time now.
"He has a lot of ability but hasn't been able to stay on the
track for over a year", Clifford said.
"Now we are back better than ever and I will place him
carefully to get the most out of it", Clifford went on to say.
Jockey Brendan McCoull chose to scout wide on the track in the
early stages looking for better ground and at the 600m mark had to
make a run which eventually saw Devils Quest hit the line very
strongly winning in the last stride.
"I was very happy with how he hit the line, especially
considering the weight, time between runs and the conditions of the
track", McCoull said.
Clifford will most likely step the horse out in another Class four
event despite the likely big weight.
"I have had horses in the past that have been capable of
stepping up to open company like this horse, however they tend to get
crucified with weight even though they are out of their class.
